Independence Day will be here before we know it! The traditional way to celebrate, of course, is to watch a big fireworks show with friends, family, and neighbors. Luckily, the Livingston County area has a few fireworks shows and other Fourth of July celebrations you won't want to miss. Here are the top events our real estate agents recommend.
The Fowlerville Fireworks Committee has been organizing this celebration annually since our nation's birth. They're a dedicated group of volunteers, many of whom are local business owners, and they really know how to put on a show. The key attraction, of course, is the fireworks, but the event also includes:
The event takes place on July 4, of course. The parade typically starts at 7 p.m., and fireworks go off as soon as it gets dark. Make sure you arrive early to find a good viewing spot. Fowlerville Community Park is where most people gather.
Whitmore Lake will light its fireworks on Friday, July 3. July 4 is the rain date in case of poor weather. This is the celebration's 67th year, and it just keeps getting better with bigger, more spectacular shows. Parking is available at Northfield Community Park on Main Street and Barker Rd.
The fireworks might end on Friday night, but the party continues the next day. On Saturday, July 4th, the Kiwanis will host the Annual 4th of July Parade through Whitmore Lake, beginning at 10 a.m. Then at 2 p.m., there's the Banana Split Eating Contest, which is open to contestants ages 4 and up.
Downtown Brighton is another great place to celebrate Independence Day. The annual Brighton 4th of July Parade always draws a large crowd. You'll see everything from tractors to cartoon characters making their way down the street. This year's parade should be extra special, as it will honor the 250th anniversary of the United States' birth.
The Brighton 4th of July Parade kicks off at 10 a.m., but there's plenty to keep you busy before then. The Duckling Dash is adorable, and there will be various games for kids on Main Street beginning at 8:30 a.m.
Have you been so busy looking at Brighton homes for sale that you've barely had time to exercise? Sign up for the Hungry Duck Run on July 4th, and start training. This may not be the most traditional way to celebrate Independence Day, but it's a celebration nonetheless. There are three races: a half-marathon, a 5k, and a short kids' run. Walkers and runners of all paces are welcome.
The Hungry Duck Run course weaves through downtown. Most of the course is paved, but there are a few sections on hard-packed dirt. The half-marathon begins at 7 a.m., the 5k at 7:15 a.m., and the kids' run at 9:30 a.m. on July 4. Pre-register to save a few dollars. The kids' run is free!
Address: Portage Lake, Pinckney, MI 48169
The Pinckney fireworks show over Portage Lake has roots going back to the 1960s, originally started by Norm Klave of Klave's Marina and now presented by the Portage Lake Area Community Service Organization (PLACSO). It's a beloved community tradition with spectacular lakeside views. The 2025 show is scheduled for July 5, with July 6 as the rain date. Donations are encouraged to keep the tradition going.
Whether you choose to celebrate with fireworks, run a 5k, or watch a parade, we hope you have an amazing 4th of July. Don't hesitate to contact us if you're looking for Brighton or Howell homes for sale. We know the area well and would love to help.
