Local Memorial Day Weekend Events to Kick Off Summer | Griffith Realty

Memorial Day Weekend is the unofficial start of summer, with warm temperatures and the last day of school right around the corner. If you're looking for activities taking place over this weekend, you'll have plenty to choose from, whether you're heading out on your own or with friends or family.

Get Arty at the Kensington Metropark Art Fair

The three-day Kensington Metropark Art Fair takes place May 23-26 along the shoreline of Kent Lake and showcases the area's natural beauty and the works of 100 artists. Located near Milford homes for sale and taking place in one of the area's most popular parks, this event lets visitors explore many types of art, including:

  • Photography
  • Sculpture
  • Wearable art
  • Functional pieces

The fun also includes hands-on art activities presented by the Detroit Institute of Arts as well as live musicfood trucks, and specialty foods. You're also welcome to build your own sand castle and marvel at the fair's 10-ton sand sculpture.

Memorial Day Parades

Where: Brighton, Howell, Pinckney, and Hartland

The southeast area of Michigan hosts several Memorial Day parades, each of which brings the community together while paying tribute to those who have served our country. The processions will take place in Brighton, Howell, Pinckney, and Hartland with marching bands, veterans groups, local organizations, and members of the community. Plenty of spectators line the parade route, waving flags, and afterward, many head to local shops and restaurants to explore the area.

Where: Golf Courses Throughout the Area

In many places, private clubs dominate the area golfing scene, with very few public courses available. That's not the case in the Brighton Howell area, which has a whopping 19 public golf courses to choose from. Whether you're already hard at work lowering your handicap or are just getting started, hitting the links is a great way to spend the weekend. You'll find well-maintained courses, magnificent views, and interesting layouts, offering plenty of places you'll want to visit throughout the summer as you discover your favorites.
