Always a local favorite, the Legend of Sleepy Howell returns on October 18, 2025, with a variety of fun activities for the family around Downtown Howell. Kick things off with Livingston County's largest outdoor trick-or-treat event, where kids can enjoy free trick-or-treating on Clinton, Court, and Church Streets. Both State Street and the Howell Courthouse lawn will also be hosting Halloween and fall-themed activities in conjunction with the trick-or-treating events. The fun starts at 3:00 PM, with no admission cost and no registration required.
The Howell Nature Center hosts a variety of fun events around Halloween, including their popular Howl-O-Ween event on October 11-12, 2025, with two sessions on each day. This event features a great mix of nature and Halloween activities, including:

wildlife presentations
costume contests
sweet fall treats
play sessions at Alexandria's Nature Scape.
You can register for the event in advance online, with discounts available for Howell Nature Center members. Sessions start at 3:00 PM and 5:00 PM on both days of the event.
How about some healthy family fun before enjoying all of that Halloween candy? The Headless Horseman 5K and Monster Mile take place on October 18, 2025, shortly after the end of the Legend of Sleep Howell event. There will be costumed 5K and 1-mile races, with walkers, strollers, and leashed dogs permitted, so the whole family can get in on the fun. The course winds its way through Downtown Howell, with a portion running through Scofield City Park. The Monster Mile kicks off at 5:30 PM, with a rolling start for the Headless Horseman 5K to follow at 6:00 PM.
For families with older kids, Livingston County offers a variety of haunted experiences that have scared and delighted attendees for decades, including the Terrorfied Forest in Pinckney. Travel a spooky trail through the woods, with jump scares, terrifying creatures, and haunting howls waiting around every corner. You can enjoy this event Thursday-Sunday throughout October and November, with organizers recommending visiting on Thursday or Sunday evenings for a shorter wait time. Or you can purchase a Fast Pass ticket to skip the line on Friday or Saturday.
Slay Nights is an indoor haunted house in Howell, located within a 10,000-square-foot facility packed with high-tech special effects and terrifying scenes with a medieval theme. This is another one for families with older kids, and it's open every Friday-Sunday throughout October. Grab your tickets online in advance, or purchase them in person at the ticket booth starting at 7:30 PM on each day of the event.
