Fall Fishing

Fall is in the air, and there's no better time to enjoy some time outdoors in Michigan. If you're looking for a great place for a fall fishing trip in Livingston County, our real estate agents have some ideas.

The landscape of Michigan's Livingston County is dotted with lakes and ponds that offer some amazing fishing opportunities. This fall, be sure to check out some of these great fishing spots in the Howell and Brighton area. Before your fishing trip, don't forget to get your fishing license and follow the rules at each of these fishing spots.

  • Woodland Lake - Hilton Rd, Brighton, MI 48114
Woodland Lake is one of the most popular fishing spots in Livingston County. This 290-acre lake is best known for its abundant population of northern pike. Numerous pike over 36 inches are caught here every year, and fall is one of the best times to be on the water. The Woodland Lake Public Boat Launch is a good place to start, offering bank fishing access as well as boat ramps.

  • Lake Chemung - 1465 Oak Haven Dr, Howell, MI 48843
Spanning a little over 300 acres, Lake Chemung is one of the most productive fishing lakes in Livingston County. In addition to being stocked with walleye by the state, the lake supports healthy populations of largemouth bass, northern pike, bluegill, and black crappie. The sunken island in the middle of the lake is one of the best fishing spots, and anglers also find success casting to docks along the shoreline. The Lake Chemung Public Boat Launch on the north shore of the lake provides access.

  • Island Lake Recreation Area - 6301 Kensington Rd, Brighton, MI 48116
Just a short drive from Brighton, Island Lake Recreation Area is an excellent destination for outdoor recreation of all kinds. In addition to campsites, hiking trails, and picnic areas, the park includes a beautiful stretch of the Huron River, which is popular for canoeing as well as fishing. Many anglers catch smallmouth bass and sunfish from the river. Island Lake Recreation Area also includes several small lakes and ponds for fishing, including Spring Mill Pond, which is stocked annually with trout.

  • Whitmore Lake - 11272 N Shore Dr, Whitmore Lake, MI 48189
Whitmore Lake is the largest lake in Livingston County at 677 acres. It's known for being one of the best bass fishing lakes in Michigan, and anglers catch both largemouth and smallmouth bass. Other species, including walleye, panfish, and pike, are also available. Shore access to the lake is somewhat limited, but the Whitmore Lake Public Boat Launch is a great place to get on the water. This is an excellent lake to fish in fall, after the summer recreational boat traffic has died down.

  • Chilson Pond - 6360 Chilson Rd, Howell, MI 48843
Accessible through Brighton Recreation Area, Chilson Pond is one of the best places to fish from the shore. There's excellent bank access in the park, and Chilson Pond is also a lot of fun to fish from a canoe or kayak. Bluegill are the most common species caught here, and the pond is known for producing a lot of bluegill that are above-average size.
