Livingston County Library

A library is more than a place to get books. Here in Brighton, we're lucky to have a place like the Brighton District Library

The Brighton District Library has been serving the local community for decades, and our real estate agents are proud to have such a great local resource at the heart of Brighton. If you're new to the Brighton area, let's take a moment to get to know your new library!

Location and Grounds

The Brighton District Library is located at 100 Library Drive, just minutes from Downtown Brighton. The current library building was opened in 1996.

The library is known for the large flower garden on its grounds. It's also located adjacent to a wetlands preserve, which includes several acres of forests, meadows, wetlands, and ponds in the heart of Brighton. The library itself is open every day of the week, though specific hours may vary.

Library Resources

Serving the city of Brighton as well as Genoa, Green Oak, and Brighton townships, the Brighton District Library provides resources to 42,000 local residents. The library's collection spans more than 130,000 books, audiobooks, magazines, DVDs, and other media. There's also an extensive collection of materials related to local history and genealogy.

Library patrons can also order books and other items from other libraries all over the state of Michigan and check them out through the Brighton District Library. Other resources include:

  • Free public wireless network
  • Public computer stations with internet access
  • Printing, scanning, faxing, and public copy machines
  • Rooms for quiet study and community meetings
  • Business resource center
  • Low vision services and adaptive technology
  • Free eBooks and downloadable audiobooks

Programs and Events

There's always something happening at the Brighton District Library, from computer classes and one-on-one school tutoring to art exhibits and book clubs. Programs and events at the library include:

  • Regular art exhibits at the Norma Grey Galley, which is curated by the Brighton Art Guild and features works from local and regional artists.
  • Weekly book clubs led by library staff, including Books & Brews on Wednesday evenings and Brunch Book Discussions on Tuesday mornings.
  • Local author showcases and book signings, typically held twice each calendar year.
  • Book subscription boxes, which come out monthly and include hand-picked books from the library and prizes for kids and teens in various age groups.
  • An on-site used bookstore that features an affordable and ever-changing selection of lightly used books.
  • DIY story time kits that parents can take home to encourage a love of reading.
  • Library tours can be arranged in advance for various age groups and group sizes.

This is just the tip of the iceberg of what the Brighton District Library has to offer! Keep in mind that some events and programs, such as book clubs, are currently being held virtually due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
