The Brighton area is known for its snowy weather and beautiful winter scenery. When the temperature drops, outdoor adventures don't stop in Livingston County. If you live in Brighton or are thinking of moving here, then make sure you plan a visit to Mt. Brighton Ski Resort for some time on the slopes. It's truly one of the nicest places to get outdoors and enjoy the best that winter has to offer. Here are some more details to help plan your visit.
- The History of Mt. Brighton
Mt. Brighton was opened in the early 1960s. Since then, the resort has slowly expanded, adding additional slopes and runs. In the 1980s, the resort began welcoming snowboarders, too. Snowboarding remains a popular choice at Mt. Brighton. Often, there are more snowboarders than skiers on the hills!
Vail Resorts purchased Mt. Brighton in 2015, and they've continued to make improvements to the property ever since. The facility now has 43 snowmakers and its own automated pump house.
- Key Details
Throughout the winter season, the resort is open Monday - Friday 11 am - 7 pm, Saturday 10 am - 7 pm, and Sunday from 10 am - 6 pm.
You can purchase lift tickets in advance on the Mt. Brighton website. Tickets are generally refundable if your plans change. The resort also sells passes that give you access to the mountain along with a discount on food, lodging, rentals, and lessons.
- The Slopes
With 130 acres of beautiful, hilly land, the ski resort is home to 25 slopes. About 30% of these trails are beginner-friendly. Another 40% are intermediate, and 30% are advanced, meaning there's an option for every skill level. Mt. Brighton has 5 chairlifts and 7 surface lifts. The base elevation is 1,100 feet, and the summit rises to an elevation of 1,330 feet.
Mt. Brighton makes its own snow, and plenty of it, so as long as it's cold outside, the conditions are perfect for winter thrills.
- Lessons and Rentals
If you're new to skiing or snowboarding, consider taking lessons at Mt. Brighton. Friendly instructors can teach you the ropes. In addition to basic lessons, the resort offers Terrain Park lessons during which you can learn advanced skills such as how to go over a jump or pipe.
Mt. Brighton rents skis, poles, snowboards, helmets, snow boots, and other equipment. They have both children's and adults' sizes.
- Other Activities
There's more to do at Mt. Brighton than ski and snowboard. Ski Hill Grill, an on-site restaurant, is a great place to enjoy a meal after a long day in the cold. The open floor plan and large glass windows allow for a lovely view of the mountain as you dine.
You could also dine at Ore Creek Mountain Grill, a casual on-site restaurant with a large patio for outdoor dining. They serve beer, wine, and cocktails.
Do you need new ski equipment or outdoor apparel? The Chairlift Ski Shop is Mt. Brighton's on-site vendor. They have a great selection of helmets, goggles, gloves, socks, and more from brands like Quicksilver, Candy Grind, and Bula.
