Fantasy of Lights

One reason we really love the Howell area is all of the fun, local events the community plans each year. As the weather grows cooler, it's time to start planning for the Fantasy of Lights, one of Howell's favorite festivals. Who doesn't love glistening, colorful lights and visits from Santa? Here are the key details you'll need to attend the Fantasy of Lights in 2021.

  • Time and Date
This year's Fantasy of Lights is scheduled for Friday, November 26th, which is the day after Thanksgiving. Festivities kick off at 3:30 pm, with various events and attractions taking place well into the evening.

  • Fantasy of Lights Parade
The parade is one of the biggest attractions at the Fantasy of Lights, and it's perfect for families. It will begin after dark at 7:00 pm, which ensures everyone can fully appreciate the beauty of the lit floats that will roll down the street. Every entry in the parade must be lit with at least 5,000 lights, so you can bet they'll be bright! The parade route stretches down Grand Avenue. You can count on seeing everything from dancing elves to glistening wreaths.

  • Fantasy of Lights 5k
If you want to get an early start on your winter fitness goals, then register for the Fantasy of Lights 5k. The race starts at 6:00 pm, so you should be done in plenty of time for the parade. Run down Grand River in downtown Howell, enjoying twinkling lights along the way. Many of the runners also dress up in lit, holiday-themed costumes.

You can pre-register for the Fantasy of Lights 5k online. The cost is $30 per person until November 24th and $35 per person after that. Register a family of four, and get a $5 discount per person! There's a costume contest for runners, and packet pickup is at 12:00 the day of the race. Everyone who registers prior to November 5th will receive a free t-shirt.

  • Downtown Activities
In addition to the parade and 5k, there will also be various family events taking place downtown from 3:30 pm onwards. Enjoy some festive treats from one of the visiting food trucks, or take your kids to meet Santa. There will be live reindeer to admire and pet, and many of the local shops will be offering discounts and sales for the holidays. There's even a cookie decorating station, which is perfect for kids.

It's the most wonderful time of the year to call Livingston County home. And the Fantasy of Lights is one of the best events of the season in Howell.
