Livingston County Disc Golf

When our real estate agents talk to potential new residents about all the things there are to love about living in Livingston County, the variety of outdoor activities always comes up. From golfing to hiking and more, there's no shortage of fun ways to enjoy the fresh air.

One activity that is booming in the area is disc golf. This fun, simple game is played by throwing a disc at a target, using rules that are similar to golf. Since it has become so popular, many disc golf courses have popped up in the area. Here are a few we recommend.

  • Brighton Recreation Area: 6360 Chilson Rd. Howell, MI 48843
The 4,947-acre Brighton Recreation Area is the perfect place to connect with nature and get away from it all. It offers beautiful views and scenery and is one of the area's most popular places to play disc golf. There are also three campgrounds with over 200 camp sights and over 39 miles of trails for horseback riding, hiking, mountain biking, and skiing.

The Chilson Woods course features 18 holes of fun. The front 9 is mostly flat and the entire area is heavily wooded. This part of the course features concrete tees while the back 9 has natural tees. The hilly, wooded nature of the back 9 also means it's not cart-friendly. You'll want to use a bit of care here as well, as the rough areas are often very thorny.

Within the Brighton Recreation Area, you'll also find an ADA version of the Chilson Woods course. This very simple course is designed for absolute beginners and players with disabilities.
  • Kensington Metropark: 4570 Huron River Pkwy, Milford, MI 48380
The Black Locust disc golf course, located at Kensington Metropark, features 36-hole fairways that offer scenic views, thick woods, and rolling meadows. On the 18th hole, you'll find a basket in a tree stump, offering players some added fun.

For additional disc golf fun, check out the Toboggan Course, which is located close to the winter activities area.
  • Marion Township Hall: 2877 West Coon Lake Road, Howell, MI, 48843
Marion Township Hall offers a fun, 18-hole course that's appropriate for players of all skill levels. While some of the holes are challenging, others are fairly easy, allowing players to build up their confidence. You'll find a few holes that offer a straight shot while others feature hazards, baskets in trees, and other interesting set-ups. This is a nice course to play, thanks to the multiple benches along the way and the large seating area with a gazebo between the 14th and 15th tees.

There are so many reasons to love living in the Livingston County area, and the great outdoors is certainly one of them!
