Home Office Brighton

If 2020 has taught us anything, it's that a home office can go anywhere if you believe hard enough. With so many people working from home now, our real estate agents have seen some pretty clever ways of incorporating home offices into everyday living spaces. Here are 5 creative tips to consider.

  1. Keep it in a cabinet.
If Murphy beds can be kept in a cupboard, so can an office! Think of it as an entertainment armoire, just somewhat less entertaining. A tall built-in cabinet can open out to reveal a desk, your computer, and everything else you need to be productive from home. Close it up at the end of the day to simulate leaving the office or to hide your workspace from guests.
  2. Tuck it away under the stairs.
That space under the stairs is just dead space in many homes, but it can make a great home office hideaway! Position your desk where you have the most space, and utilize the space under the sloped ceiling for storage. Custom-built shelves or cabinets over your desk can make full use of all vertical space available to you.
  3. Close it up in a closet.
Like using a cabinet or armoire for your office, turning an unneeded closet into a little home office nook has the distinct advantage of being something you can close up when you're done working. Out of sight, out of mind! Or leave the doors off to open the space a little. Shelving will help you make use of vertical storage space.
  4. Utilize a landing.
You know those awkward empty spaces at the top of some staircases? That dead space might have been intended for a hall table or a tiny (mostly decorative) sitting area, but with a well-organized desk and some discreet storage, you can give it new life as your home office.
  5. Hide it in plain sight.
If you're not one to hide away in some nook or cranny while you work at home, consider putting your home office right in the heart of the home. The kitchen is a popular place for many to work from home since it's usually brightly lit, and the kitchen table, counter, or bar provides plenty of space to spread out. Add some clever storage so your work can be tucked away when needed.

Working from home is typically easier once you have a dedicated workspace, but sometimes it just makes you realize that your home doesn't provide everything you need. If you are in the market for a home where you can work comfortably, contact us today, and one of our agents will help you get your search started.
