Spare Bedroom Ideas

Do you have an extra bedroom that's been quietly calling out for a purpose? Maybe you're empty nesters with some newly-available space. Maybe you're a young couple with plans to fill all those bedrooms someday, but not just yet. In any case, our real estate agents are here to help. Be sure to consider some of these options for putting that space to good use!

  1. Create the Home Office of Your Dreams
If you're among the millions of Americans who have found themselves suddenly working from home this year, then you've probably been dreaming about a proper home office. It sure beats trying to get the job done from the couch or the kitchen counter. Turning a spare bedroom into a functional workspace is a great way to utilize that extra room and can continue being useful long after COVID-19 has come and gone.
  2. Make It a Closet Room
That's right. A whole room that's just a closet. Sounds great, doesn't it? If you have a closet that's overstuffed, creating a closet room is a great way to fix that imbalance. Utilize shelves and clothing racks to create the ideal storage space for your clothes and accessories.
  3. Enjoy Some Creative Studio Space
We all need an artistic release sometimes, and an unoccupied bedroom can be an opportunity to really get creative. Whether you turn it into a crafting space, a photography studio, a drawing and painting room, or any number of other artistic options, it's really great to have a dedicated space for your favorite hobby.
  4. Turn It Into a Guest Bedroom
Sometimes a bedroom is meant to be a bedroom. But it doesn't have to be your bedroom. Having a guest space is always a great way to make your home more warm and welcoming, especially if you're the sort who likes to entertain company. If you have kids away at school, you might also want a guest room for them to crash when they're back in town. And it's certainly easier than hauling out an air mattress every time relatives want to stay over.
  5. Open Up Your Own Lounge
This might not be the ideal for everyone, but if having a bar in your own home sounds like living the dream, then take notice. You can easily transform a spare bedroom into a cocktail lounge and impress your guests. It works especially well for a downstairs bedroom, and how far you want to go is up to you. Get a bar cart or wine rack, invest in a mini-fridge with a tap, look for some character-filled furniture, and you're good to go.
  6. Create a Home Workout Space
Keeping in shape has been hard for those of us who have been stuck at home in 2020. So if you're looking to shed your "quarantine 15," a home workout space might be just the ticket. You can go a lot of ways here—home yoga studio, weightlifting room, or simply a place to stick your old Stairmaster—but a lot of us are much more likely to get in shape if we can do it from the comfort of our own home.
