Once you've closed the deal on your choice of Howell homes for sale, you'll begin the chaotic moving process. Even with the best of intentions, it seems like you always forget something. Our REALTORS® have gathered a list a list of the seven things many people forget when they're moving.
- Collect Important Documents
Collect important information, such as personal records and contact info, around two months before you move. Remember to obtain all medical info from all of the family doctors and copies of prescriptions from your pharmacist. This makes it easier to transfer prescriptions and find a new doctor. It's also important to gather your children's school records for their new school. Keep your new address and business info on you and your family.

- Pack an Essentials Box
So often, you'll get to your new house and not feel like digging through tons of boxes to find the coffee maker and a few mugs. So take the time to pack a box or two to keep in the car. Fill it with clothes, toiletries, and medication for the next day or two. Add items like your kids' favorite toy, your Kindle, and some mugs for tea and hot chocolate. Don't forget essentials like a roll of toilet paper as well.
- Transfer Utilities
Remember to turn on the utilities in your new home. Aim to start them a few days before you move in. This way, you won't be unpacking in a cold, dark home or taking a frigid shower your first night. At the same time, remember to shut off your utilities at your old house. You don't want to continue to receive heating, water, and cable bills months after you've moved.
- Cancel Memberships
Talk to your fitness center about canceling your membership. Some will refund your dues for the unused portion of the contract. If they're a large chain, you may just be able to transfer your membership to another branch in your new hometown.
- Check Keys and Garage Door Opener
Check that you have all the keys you need for your new house, including the front door, back door, garage, and any deadbolts. Make sure you remember the keys to bike locks, safety deposit boxes, and anything else. At the same time, remember to leave the new owners all of your house keys and the garage door opener so they won't need to call for assistance.
- Clear out and Clean the House
While you're packing the house, make sure you've gotten rid of everything you don't want, such as the old TV or mismatched couches. If you don't want it, chances are, the new owners won't want the old furnishings crowding their house either. Remember to deep clean house after everything is completely out, so it's sparkling and shiny for the new owners.
