16th Annual Legend of Sleepy Howell
It's almost time for one of Downtown Howell's favorite fall events, the Legend of Sleepy Howell! Whether you're a Howell local or checking out Howell homes for sale, you won't want to miss this Trick-or-Treating event on Saturday, October 27 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, rain-or-shine event.

What to Expect from the Legend of Sleepy Howell
Thrills, chills, and Halloween treats are in store for ghouls and goblins attending the event. The 16th Annual Legend of Sleepy Howell is hosted by the Howell Area Parks & Recreation Authority and the City of Howell.
Trick-or-Treating
Who says trick-or-treating is just for Halloween night? Dress up in your favorite costumes and come to the Grand River in Downtown Howell for plenty of candy and fun. Also, stop by the Teal Pumpkin tent where you'll find alternative treats for children with allergies and other health issues.
Costume Contest
Do you think your costume has what it takes to be a winner? Visit the Courthouse Lawn in front of the Big Orange Chairs to submit your best costume photo for the contest. Submit photos to Facebook by 11:59 pm on Sunday, October 28 using the hashtag #Sleepy Howell2018. Don't forget to write which contest you're participating in.
Prizes go to the Best Homemade Costume, Best Family/Group Costume, and Best Dynamic Duo Costume. Our staff will choose the top three of each category and post them to the Legend of Sleepy Howell Facebook page on Monday, October 29 for a community vote. Winners will be named onWednesday, October 31.
Headless Horseman 5K and Monster Mile Run
The Legend of Sleepy Howell is also home to the 10th Annual Headless Horseman 5K race. Costumed racers will love this night-time run through the streets of Howell and into the shadows of the Lakeview Cemetery. If you're not quite up for a 5K, you can still enjoy the festivities by participating in the Monster Mile fun-run.
The Monster Mile begins at 7:00 pm, with the 5K beginning immediately after at 7:30 pm. The first 300 participants to register will receive a commemorative glass and an exclusive post-race brew at Aberrant Ales in Downtown Howell. There will also be prizes for the top three finishers in each age group/gender category.
More Family-Friendly Fun
Other activities are available for visitors of all ages including hayrides, a hay maze, live music, food, and street vendors. The event takes place from 6 to 8 pm and is free to attend.
