Brighton MI Homes Earth Day

Brighton… Let's Celebrate Where We Live

Our real estate agents at Griffith Realty believe in supporting the communities where we live. We are inviting you to join us this weekend in Brighton to celebrate Earth Day 2018.

When you celebrate Earth Day, you will be taking part in a global event started in 1970 to demonstrate support for environmental protection. Today, Earth Day is celebrated in more than 193 countries around the globe.

Here is a list of activities happening in our own Brighton neighborhoods beginning Saturday:

Saturday, April 21, 2018 Events

  • Brighton Earth Day at City Hall
Earth Day is to diversify, educate, and activate the environmental movement worldwide, and locally, we take that mission to heart. This year's events are focused on improving and maintaining the quality of the water and beautiful shorelines in our area, as well as cleaning up nature trails and highways.

The Huron River Watershed Council is sponsoring an event from 10 AM – 2 PM on Saturday, April 21 at City Hall in Brighton, 200 North First Street, to show what you can do to help protect clean water in our Livingston County communities. This is an opportunity to learn about rain gardens, capturing rain water in your yard, and protecting the shoreline of our beautiful area lakes. Participants can also receive a free red maple tree sapling and a purple coneflower seed starter.

A variety of exhibitors will be on hand demonstrating their products and talking about their programs. Whether you are interested in clean transportation, environmentally friendly home construction and home products, vegetable and flower gardening, recycling or protecting the natural beauty around our community, you'll find it at this event.

  • The Millpond Restoration Project
Millpond is a natural beauty in Brighton; however, it has suffered from both soil and water deterioration in recent years. As part of the larger Beautify Brighton project, volunteers have been working to improve the area through brush removal, shoreline restoration, weed, and waterfowl management. Saturday, April 21 will be a volunteer day, and area residents will be assisting in directed efforts to continue the work on this community treasure. Working together our community hopes to restore the Millpond shoreline to its former state.

Sunday, April 22, 2018 Events

  • Altra Earth Day Plogging
Plogging has come to Brighton. If you're thinking "Plogging…what's that?" You're not alone. Plogging originated in Sweden. It is a combination of the words jogging and plucking. Basically, environmentally conscious runners pick up trash during their run. Altra Running Shoes will be sponsoring this year's plogging event taking off at the Brighton Recreation Area, 6360 Chilson Road in Brighton, beginning at 9 AM. Each participant will be given a pair of Altra running shoes to demo while they pick up litter on the trail or in the parking lot. The participant that brings the most trash back with them will win a free pair of Altra running shoes.

  • I-96 Highway Clean-Up
From 3 PM to 5 PM the Crossroads Group of the Sierra Club and community volunteers will be cleaning up their adopted stretch of I-96, removing trash and debris across a two-mile stretch. The group will meet at the Park and Ride lot on the north side near Spencer road and I-96, and group organizers will have bags and safety vests for all participants. Volunteers are asked to bring a thick pair of gloves and wear long pants and boots. Ear plus are recommended to cut down on traffic noise. Your participation in this important event will be greatly appreciated by the event organizers and the entire Brighton community.
